The Performance Alaia
The performance model is designed for high performance surfing in fast or hollower waves and will surf well in the pocket and carve on steep faces. The parabolic tail shape was used in ancient Hawaiian Alaia designs and really helps the tail bite into the face of the wave like a fin on a normal board. Combined with the concave it makes the Alaia much easier to control in steeper waves.
The Swallow Tail Alaia
This baby has nice sharp rails for hold, a straighter outline for maximum speed and a thin, flexy swallow tail for nice responsive turns. This board has more volume than the performance model and is easier to paddle.
The Traditional Alaia
This model has a smoother, straighter outline than the performance model. The rails are nice and sharp; designed for maximum hold and speed. This model is suited to fatter, rolling waves, for cruising and sliding rather than high performance, in-the-pocket surfing.
All our Alaias are shaped using our premium paulownia timber blanks, these boards are strong and durable. Our Paulownia timber is Australian-grown and is an incredibly light hardwood with great water resistant qualities. The timber is selected by hand and the result is a beautiful, symmetrical timber blank that is made up of 5 even pieces of high grade Paulownia
All boards are hand shaped and then sealed with liquid lanolin. Lanolin acts as the best water resistant coating you can apply to a wood board as an alternative to glassing, minimising toxins and waste that is associated with glassing. It will keep your board water resistant for months, only need a light sand and a quick spray to re-coat your board. In the water, Lanolin oil is actually sticky so you don't need to cover your beautiful wood board with wax.
Just unwrap it (recycle the packaging of course) and go surfing!
The boards are guaranteed - if your board breaks due to a fault in the blank within 3 months, we will replace it at no cost to you.
