Materials: The process of making neoprene invloves melting down neoprene chips which can be petroleum based or limetsone baed. West used limestone based neoprene chips which reduce our dependence on oil and the associated environmental impacts involved with teh drilling and refining of oil. West does not claim that using limetsone based neoprene will reduce the overall environmental impact of wetsuit production, but it is a start and a move away from oil-dependence and experimenting with viable alternatives.
